The Housing Authority of the City of Shreveport provides opportunities for its residents to satisfy the mandate of community service that was imposed by Congress under the Quality Housing and Work Responsibility Act of 1998 (QHWRA). The mandate requires adult public housing residents ages 18-62 to perform at least eight (8) hours of volunteer service per month. Some of the activities in which the residents are able to engage are:
- Adult GED classes
- Volunteer at other agencies around the city
- Self-help classes and seminars
